    This Is A Trip

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay\u27s first paragraph. The major advantages of commuting by public transportation are not having to drive yourself (so that you have time to accomplish something else, such as homework), not having to worry about gasoline and auto maintenence, and not having to cope with drive-time (rush-hour) traffic. But there are times when you wish you didn\u27t have to take that bumpy bus

A Node Based Volume Modeling and Rendering Toolkit for Python

    Get PDF
This thesis covers the implementation and use of a node based volume modeling and ren- dering toolkit for python. The first part of the thesis covers the code structure of the toolkit, the implementation of the nodes, and how they are evaluated. Operator graphs are built from nodes to create and shape volumes. During volume rendering these graphs are evaluated for the density and color values. The second part of the thesis covers how the toolkit was used to create and render volumetric effects by emulating an effect seen in a movie. The animation of the effect, the use of the toolkit and compositing the effect are all discussed

    Hall-effect sign-inversion in a realizable 3D metamaterial

    Get PDF
In 2009, Briane and Milton proved mathematically the existence of three-dimensional isotropic metamaterials with a classical Hall coefficient which is negative with respect to that of all of the metamaterial constituents. Here, we significantly simplify their blueprint towards an architecture composed of only a single constituent material in vacuum/air, which can be seen as a special type of porosity. We show that the sign of the Hall voltage is determined by a separation parameter between adjacent tori. This qualitative behavior is robust even for only a small number of metamaterial unit cells. The combination of simplification and robustness brings experimental verifications of this striking sign-inversion into reach.Comment: 9 figures, 7 page

An Approach to Annual Reports By Agricultural Research Departments

    Get PDF
Leaders in agricultural research institutions in many developing countries want to publish English-language annual reports. They have few editorial and financial resources. Few have ( 1) analyzed their reasons for reporting, (2) set priorities among audiences, or (3) considered a design that would serve the audience(s). This paper proposes three main audiences for such reports: heads of agencies that use agricultural research findings, agricultural scientists, and some persons interested in agricultural science (but not scientists). An audience-friendly approach is suggested for the design and preparation of annual reports that can be more useful than those written in the usual scientific-report form
